What's Growing On??                                     February 2009

It's been great to talk to some of you recently and even better to hear the
enthusiasm in everyone's voices.  It seems that we're all on the same page and
thinking that with good weather this could be a great spring plant-selling season!

By now you may have received our 2009 spring plant lists and are wondering
about variety changes.  On the pak annual list, you may notice the following
    substitutions from 2008:

Coleus Carefree Mix for Kaleidoscope Mix - This change was due to seed availability.
Impatiens Cajun Orange for ShowStopper Deep Orange - We feel Cajun Orange is a
more intense orange than the ShowStopper and the plant size is similiar.
Nicotiana Saratoga series for Domino series - Again, seed availability forced this change,
but we don't think you will see a difference between the two.
Pansy Frizzle Sizzle Mix for Masterpiece Mix - Frizzle Sizzle appears to be even rufflier
than Masterpiece and quite frankly, a lot of fun to say!
Snapdragon Montego series for Floral Showers series - The Montego series tends to
have much brighter and intense colors than the Floral Showers.

    New for spring 2009 . . .
Nicotiana Starmaker Lime/Purple Bicolor - Purple edged lime green flowers as well as solid
purple on the same plant.  Will look great in combinations due to the variegation of the blossoms.
Petunia Moonlight Madness Mix - A beautiful new color combination of Lavender Glow Madness,
    Yellow Madness and Lilac Madness.
Salpiglosis Royale Chocolate - Salpiglosis is a unique and wonderful flower and now we have
added the chocolate color to our lineup. Since brown and chocolate seem to be the "new" color for
spring in our homes and clothes, we think this will fly off the shelves.

We have dropped the Petunia Bravo Series from pak production, because we did not
feel it held up as well as the other petunias in all of the rain we had last spring.
Therefore,  we feel that they might not be the best grandiflora petunia for the Pacific
    Northwest area.

Petunia Supercascade Lilac has been dropped, because the flower color seems to have
    become too inconsistent.

We will cover vegetable changes in the March article, as the more I talk to all of you, the
    more changes we are making.

We hope that you will find these additions and changes helpful in selling the best plants
possible to your customer this spring.  Please let us know what you think of them or if
there are any other changes you would like to see occur.

    Carol, Bel-R Production Dept.
